The Taste // Indulge Like a #GLOWPRO

As if Labor Day weekend couldn't get any better, every year The Los Angeles Times The Taste turns Paramount Pictures Studio Lot into an epicurean dream filled with the unique flavors of LA. Mark your calendars now, because this is the best food event out there. And, see Tara's tips on how to indulge like a #glowpro. The Los Angeles Times helps us celebrate the vast culinary landscape of LA with what has become an annual tradition for us LA food-lovers-- The Taste. A premier three-day Labor Day weekend food festival held on the iconic Paramount Pictures Studios backlot in Hollywood, this food and wine event is literally picture perfect-- strung with lights and white tented booths among the "New York Streets" cityscape-- and boasts nothing but good vibes, delicious food, even better drinks, and the best chefs and food purveyors in LA.

We joined Friday's Opening Night soiree, where the warm breeze washed over us as the sun was setting. We were in bliss as we sipped and savored the various tastes of LA. Some of the night's highlights included Plan Check's Fried Chicken Burger with Ketchup leather, Hamasaku's Salmon Roll, Phorage's Crispy Chicken Wings, The Church Key's Crispy Halibut Tacos, and Hinoki & the Bird's Miso Donuts, just to name a few. And we might have had a few too many Lavender Margaritas from Don Julio...

The following days were filled to the brim with deliciousness and incredible chefs alike. Chef Nancy Silverton (Osteria Mozza/Pizzeria Mozza) led the locavore favorite Field to Fork event Saturday, a daytime affair spotlighting seasonal ingredients and their expressions on the plate - whether at home or on the restaurant table. Saturday evening, included Dinner with a Twist, an affair that paid tribute to the intersection of LA's dynamic culinary and cocktail cultures. And the final day of The Taste kicked off with the debut of Sunday Brunch, hosted by Noelle Carter and Thomas Keller (The French Laundry/Bouchon), highlights included non-alcoholic sparkling tea mimosas from Art of Tea and brioche cinnamon rolls from Farmshop. The final event of the The Taste was led by esteemed Times Restaurant Critic Jonathan Gold, who closed out the festivities with the ultimate tribute to the city's diverse dining landscape with Sunday evening's Flavors of LA event. Some of the city's best were there, including Loteria Grill, Alma, Guerilla Tacos, Providence, and Connie & Teds.

The Taste might be one of LA's best weekends of the year and the best way to say farewell to summer. This foodie heaven should certainly be on your to-do list, and you can certainly count on us being there next year :)


At events like this, you want to indulge in all the incredible food without worries. Here are a few tips Tara suggests to keep you on track:

1. Eat lightly beforehand on a day like this-- Leave room for all of the amazingness you're going to consume

2. Scope out all of the options before you start eating-- Take a good look at all the options at a food event, so you mark the bites that you really want to taste

3. Taste all of it, but don't necessarily finish it-- It's ok to take a few bites of a ton of dishes, and toss the rest or share it with your friends. You DON'T have to finish all of it
