Jon Reyman // Spoke and Weal

Jon Reyman of Spoke & Weal hair salon in West Hollywood embodies GLOW from the inside out. This #glowboy not only creates beauty through his impeccable hair styling skills, but he is also an incredibly disciplined and talented yogi who treats his body as his temple.

West Hollywood is lucky to now have Jon Reyman and his gorgeous new Spoke and Weal salon as a resource for all things hair. We knew we were going to like this place as soon as we walked in-- the bright and airy space has high ceilings with an industrial chic vibe, and not to mention the kindest staff. Before going to get our hair washed with the invigorating Aveda products, we were given a relaxing head massage with an oil of our choice. This time dedicated to scalp massage sets the tone for a relaxing and rejuvenating hair appointment, and we think EVERY salon should get on this level.

Head stylist and owner Jon Reyman is as fun to talk to as he is talented, and we felt completely comfortable in his hands. As the lead stylist of up to 30 shows every New York Fashion Week, Jon is a seasoned hair director and collaborative partner to some of the most relevant and influential designers in the industry including Carolina Herrera, Betsey Johnson, and Nautica. His work has been featured in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Vanity Fair, WWD, GQ, Cosmopolitan, and Elle. He has appeared on Project Runway, The Apprentice, and Good Morning America. From behind the chair, Jon has serviced a rolling list of celebrities and professionals including Lana Del Rey, Paris Hilton, Christina Milian, and Sienna Miller.

Jon's technical and creative skills, progressive cutting and styling techniques, and innovation are really what set Jon apart in the hair industry. He's indeed a trend-setter; his unique hair-cutting techniques, more specifically his 'dry-hair cuts' allow him to have more control and manipulation over the final result.

Jon deeply values utility and simplicity in his work, and he finds meaning and beauty in what's natural and useful. This unique approach connects back to his personal and spiritual practices, particularly his yogic and vegetarian lifestyle. Athough he's super disciplined, the guy knows how to indulge-- CHOCOLATE, every time. #Respect.

WHERE DID YOU GROW UP? New York

WHERE DO YOU LIVE? NYC & LA

WHEN YOU'RE EATING HEALTHY, WHAT IS A TYPICAL...

BREAKFAST: Juice

LUNCH: Juice

DINNER: Salad

SNACK: Raw Chocolate

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE RESTAURANTS/SPOTS TO EAT HEALTHY?

LA: Gracias Madre (weho) / Cafe Gratitude (larchmont);

In NYC: Pure Food & Wine / Eataly in Chelsea / Juice Press

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE INDULGENCE?  raw chocolate, TV series that make me laugh, RETREATS.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PLACES/RESTAURANTS TO INDULGE? I indulge in raw chocolate made at Pure Food & Wine, NYC — indulgence means dropping 100-150 bucks on raw organic munchies and guiltlessly eating as much as I want... in bed.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR LAST MEAL ON EARTH? Raw Tamales from Pure Food & Wine in NYC and the Cauliflower Tacos at Gracias Madre Weho + RAW CHOCOLATES from Fine & Raw (Brooklyn’s finest raw chocolatier)

WHAT IS THE BEST DISH YOU COOK/ YOUR FAVORITE RECIPE? I make killer dosas from scratch out of lentils and quinoa. I find a way to make seaweed taste amazing in everything from salads, to breakfast dishes. I will definitely pull some food combinations that surprise and impress my picky friends. I got into a seaweed wrap routine once where I made an amazing avocado, spinach, arugula, nutritional yeast, lemon, and kale chip salad and rolled it up in nori — that was a good run, many of my friends still make them. Also, I used to rock out some raw chocolate pudding for breakfast with fresh berries—a lady killer.

WHERE DO YOU GROCERY SHOP? NYC: Natural Frontier Market on E 24th St & 3rd Ave . // In LA, Whole Foods

WHAT IS YOUR FITNESS REGIMEN? Here is the goal (when I travel, I fall short.)

NYC: Yoga with Dharma Mittra or yoga at Yoga To The People everyday, I train with a trainer 3 times a week (Equinox). I enjoy paying people that are experts to take care of me and support me. It’s a gift I give to myself in order to stay balanced and do my best; I value good services and experiences.

In LA: I am training at Equinox—just started. I am looking for yoga. There is a great teacher I found named Ella Cojocaru who is newish to Yoga Works in Weho. I really enjoy her classes. Legit. She teaches with an openness and flexibility that allows me to embrace my practice. She has a mellow vibe— and clearly has worked very hard for many years because her practice is graceful and very strong.

On that note, when I get too far away from this routine, I feel it, and it’s bad. Good, hard workouts are necessary for my mental and physical well-being.

WHAT IS YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE?  I use Aveda rosemary mint body wash and skincare. I go to Gina Mari Skincare in Beverly Hills for facials. Gina and her team are my skin gurus, I love them. Being a service provider I know when I am in good hands—if you’re in LA, check them.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE NATURAL PRODUCTS? Aveda Rosemary Mint body wash, Weleda Rose Deodorant Spray (I embrace my feminine side).

IF YOU WERE STRANDED ON A DESERT ISLAND, WHAT 3 THINGS WOULD YOU TAKE WITH YOU?

1. Jasmine essential oil

2. Weleda Deodorant

3. Aveda Rosemary Mint Bodywash

WHAT PROFESSIONAL BEAUTY/FITNESS/HEALTH EXPERTS DO YOU SWEAR BY? Dharma Mittra my yoga teacher, Gina Mari Skincare, and my intuition or inner teacher that tells me what feels good and right for me

FAVORITE MUSIC? Right now I’m listening to Kendrick Lamar, Little Dragons, Metronomy

MOST LIFE-CHANGING BOOK? Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramhansa Yogananda

WHAT IS THE BEST GIFT YOU'VE EVER RECIEVED? The gift of vipasana meditation from S. N. Goenka, the many gifts of yoga asana from Dharma Mittra, mental and emotional well being from my therapist

DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT DAY. Wake up, meditate, do some yoga, juice, go to therapy, see some clients, go to dinner with friends, a little spoon action, brush and floss — the end.

FAVORITE PLACE? Bali - While the people often make a place good to me, Bali is the only place I have ever stepped foot on and felt the magic of the land. Its charged, its energized.

NYC - I love NYC because it’s anything I want it to be. It can be busy, crazy, mellow, beautiful, disgusting, colorful, monotone—I love it.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST VALUABLE BEAUTY TIP/SECRET? Take care of whats inside. focus on the inside and the outside will start to come together. To me, inner beauty is the most lasting, attractive force. The rest can be supported by pros like myself—which brings me to my other best beauty tip: GO TO A GREAT HAIRDRESSER. A great hairdresser understands that their skills are meant to frame you. The frame shouldn't take away from the piece of art but highlight it, showcase it, ect.

FAVORITE QUOTE? "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds...” - Emerson // “Be Receptive” - Sri Dharma Mittra

WHAT MAKES YOU GLOW? I couldn't do what I do without nourishment and support — the people around me, their commitment and excellence and clear communication enable me to glow. My people (my team at Spoke & Weal, my guests, my colleagues) bring out the best in me, and I strive to do the same for them. It’s reciprocal. Reciprocity lifts me up.
